Using the in-built editor

When you add body text you can place on your page any code you want to. Normally you should add text and (maybe) an image. To add text just click into the 'Body Text' pane - the standard style will be 'Normal paragraph', as shown below. The icons in the editing bar have useful titles to indicate what they are for, for instance, selecting text you wish to make into a link and selecting  Button to insert/edit link allows you insert either an internal link (other pages on your web server) or an external link (pages elsewhere), and also mailto: links and links to anchors. Details about Uploading and inserting images are available. To insert a numbered or bulletted list, type in your lines, select them all and click on either Insert numbered list (icon) or Insert bulletted list (icon), or start a fresh line, click on one of the list types and type; at the end of the list you'll need to hit 'return' twice.

If you currently have pages in the University templates, you can copy and paste the html of the content into your page - do this by first selecting the 'HTML' icon in the editing bar of the body text window:

html editing

and then pasting in the code.

If you want to copy and paste text from other sources, do be aware you might be copying formatting along with the text, and this could cause problems in your Falcon page. There are editor buttons to 'Paste as text' or 'Paste from Word' that can strip out some of the troublesome code.

When you have finished adding text, remember to select 'save' at the bottom of the page. If there are several people who work on pages, then leaving a change note could be useful for you.

Adding links

To add a link to another page or file on the same site (an internal link):

  • In the editing window for the page, select the text that you wish to have as the link and then click on the icon Button to insert/edit link, which shows 'insert/edit link' when you hover over it.
  • Navigate to the folder where your page or file is
  • Select the page or pdf you want to link to and then click 'insert', and the link will be created.
  • To add a link to an external page, follow the same steps, but select 'External' from the 'Libraries' panel on the left. If you select the 'Advanced' tab at the top of the panel, you can choose to open the link in a new tab or window.
  • You can add links to anchors or "mailto:" links in pages by selecting 'Anchors' or 'Mail' from the 'Libraries' panel on the left
